Gerry Mulligan, in one of his last recordings with the quartet led by late sculptor Ted Rosenthal on piano, delivers his message like a sermon jazz cool calm. The original recording is in the presence of distinguished guests and a brass ensemble where there is the overrepresentation of trombones and cornets. All compositions are signed by the master-west coastien baritone saxophone, and the impeccable consistency of the horn section does more than enhance its haunting chorus always moved by their sound that plays with the apparent limits of the instrument. Few saxophonists who have, like Mulligan, managed to take full advantage of the instrument to put in a mostly solo. Mulligan's intelligence on this disc is to combine its tone serious and acute heat lascivious brass. As usual, Gerry Mulligan sign a piece in which no defect is apparent, both arrangements are treated to improvisation and extremely calculated. Regrettably long Mulligan baritone and all the qualities of the man who signs an album here for clarity, to feel and to develop his long pursuit of the dream.
