When he returned to the studio in 1962 after two years of silence, two long years to challenge, to question the music of John Coltrane, his great rival, and the emergence of free jazz, Sonny Rollins , colossus with feet of clay, no doubt more of himself. Its new contract with RCA offered him a creative freedom and Rollins chooses to further explore the music he loves, to update their own way in the past to pursue jazz history. Appeased, Rollins returned first performed with The Bridge with Jim Hall, whose crystalline guitar meets his powerful tenor. Having always been influenced Latin rhythms (his mother's family is originally from the Virgin Islands), he surrounds himself with percussionists to draw inspiration from the Caribbean music, calypso and Brazilian bossa nova. Reassured, Rollins fears no one, not even Ornette Coleman and his crazy music which he borrowed the musicians in Our Man In Jazz.
