Columbus may have discovered the West Indies, but Dizzy made them swing! This sensuous calypso adventure, by Gillespie's longest-serving combo (here with added percussion and vocals), was the trumpeter's first true exploration of the Caribbean. But with six of the tunes band originals, there's plenty of Gillespiana in the mix. The colorful album art itself is a festival, with verse exhorting us: 'Come dance and sing... Hear those calypso rhythms ring.'
