A near-lost European session from pianist Walter Davis Jr recorded live in Paris at the start of the 80s.
In great trio formation with Kenny Clarke on drums and Pierre Michelot on bass! There's clearly a bop inspiration driving most of the tracks here, not just in the selection of the material, but also in the way the players come together crackling with intensity and spontaneity that reminds us a fair bit of some of Bud Powell's classic live dates in Paris 20 years before this one! As with some of the Powell recordings, there's a good deal of humanity in the grooves here.

After the 2003 Febuary release, the duo with Barney Willem, Paris Jazz Corner Production continues the adventure with Philippe Petit.
This album was originally released in 1979 on the Musica Label (Under the name : 'For all the life you are in my heart).
This session, never published in CD, is not a 'guitarist' record strictly speaking, in this context each one plays his part at the perfection: the opportunism of Aldo Romano, luminous skill of Dominique Lemerle, remarkable improvisations of Michel Graillier who always transcend the melody lines.
Philippe Petit, as for him, the ardour and freshness from his play, but also by his leader's talents : he insufflates, suggests, animates and preaches the respect, because the strong idea of a group is equality.
The title ' the solitudes' was added in bonus to this session. It's a solo by Philippe Petit dedicated to the memory of these missing friends.
Featuring :
Philippe Petit (guitar), Michel Graillier (piano), Dominique Lemerle (bass), Aldo Romano (drums)

In 1951, the French pianist Henri Renaud was 26, and the Belgian saxophone player Bobby Jaspar, 25, just like the american guitarist Jimmy Gourley. Together they discovered the new jazz of the time by listening to records of Charlie Parker 'With Strings', Al Cohn's quartet with George Wallington, Herbie Stewart and Jimmy Raney, and Stan Getz's quartet with Al Haig... A real shock to the system! Henri Renaud got a sextet together, including Sandy Mosse from the USA and pierre Michelot and Pierre Lemarchand from Paris. In June 1951 they recorded ten sides for the Saturne label, released as a magnificent serie of LPs know as 'picture discs'. This was the first time French musicians tried their hand at modern jazz, and with what talent, what originality! The result was telling. These records quickly became a legend in themselves, but were impossible to find on the market until now, when we are reissuing them in their entirety. At a time when a whole section of French jazz was looking over its soulder at the past, Henri Renaud was living his music in the present, fifty years ago.
