This session was recorded in Paris, Studio Pathe-Magellan, on October the 24th, between 2.00PM and 9.00PM.
On October the 24th, Chet don't find Jimmy Bond: Peter Littman returned to the United States. Nils-Bertil 'Bert' Dahlander, a drummer who had accompanied Swedish Lars Gullin, occupies its place. A virtual unknown settles in front of the keyboard, Gérard Gustin , that Eddie Barclay had taken under contract. In such a context, there is an obligation to use 'standard'. Chet knows it better than anyone because he has the gift to tame to be his spokesman. He chose eight: 'These Foolish Things', which appeared at a time of his new quartet repertoire, the trumpet five runs for the first time and which will not return much -'' There's a Small Hotel, Autumn In New York, Summertime, You Go to My Head, Tenderly - and two - I'll Remember April and Lover Man - he had served less than ten days earlier along with Lars and Dick Twardzik Gullin that Chet didn't accept the death. Thus, the entire session exudes an irrepressible sadness, whatever the chosen song or tempo.
Chet had never been as shocking that throughout 'You Go To My Head'.
