'I thought that Roland always had this rather heavy flute sound, while the other players sounded rather light - thin', says Edith Kirk, who suggested that her husband make an all-flute LP - as all those 'thin' players were doing, successfully, in the sixties.
So Kirk chimed in, with 'Serenade to a Cuckoo' and the title track (today his most frequently covered tunes), while sounding, as always, unique. Kirk blows neither lee-nor windward but strongest concept album - reproduced here in sound that best shows off the purity of his magic flute.
