One of the best recordings by this fantastic French tenor player who never really got his due. Despite a lot of critical raving about his playing from this period, and some nice documentation in the graphic novel Barney & The Blue Note, it's pretty tough to find anything other than the Jazz Messengers tracks that feature him. Barney's playing in the company of Kenny Dorham and Duke Jordan, and the groove is hard and swinging, and all tracks are long with plenty of room for wonderfully imaginative solos. Hear Barney's great version of 'Besame Mucho', one of his best standards!
